Position Overview
You will apprentice directly under a senior MAI-certified appraiser and receive hands-on training in commercial real estate appraisal methodologies, standards, and best practices. Over time, you will develop the skills needed to independently complete complex valuation assignments.
Day-to-day work includes client communication, market research, data collection and verification, property inspections, conversations with market participants, and collaborating with senior appraisers. This is a structured apprenticeship role designed to lead toward Certified General Appraiser licensure.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist in the valuation of commercial real estate by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting market data
- Conduct property inspections and gather relevant physical and operational information
- Prepare appraisal reports in compliance with USPAP and other applicable standards
- Research local market trends, comparable sales, lease data, and economic indicators
- Communicate with brokers, property owners, lenders, and other market participants
- Collaborate closely with the supervising appraiser to learn valuation methodologies and judgment
- Maintain accurate, well-organized appraisal files and supporting documentation
- Participate in internal training and external coursework related to appraisal education
- Progressively build the competency to manage assignments with increasing independence
- Complete state requirements to become a Certified General Real Estate Appraiser Trainee in Alabama
- Ultimately obtain a Certified General license
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong analytical, quantitative, and critical-thinking skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail and strong organizational habits
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Willingness to travel regionally for property inspections
