Toombs County Chief Appraiser

Overview

The Chief Appraiser, under the direction of the Board of Assessors, is responsible for managing, supervising, and performing technical appraisal duties in the preparation of the annual county tax digest. This role ensures real and personal property is appraised fairly and equitably, while overseeing the daily operations of the office and providing leadership to appraisal staff.

Duties

• Value real and personal property at fair market value.
• Analyze sales and maintain proper assessment ratios.
• Manage daily office operations, including receiving and processing exemption requests.
• Develop and implement appraisal procedures, policies, and schedules.
• Supervise, direct, and evaluate staff; address employee concerns, assign and review work, provide counseling, administer discipline, conduct training, and complete performance evaluations.
• Oversee parcel mapping and the addition of new construction to the tax digest.
• Assist the public with questions regarding property values, exemptions, and assessments.
• Prepare and complete required forms, reports, correspondence, and documentation.
• Attend Board of Assessors meetings and provide updates on office operations.
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with employees, departments, the public, and external stakeholders to coordinate work activities, resolve issues, and exchange information.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; supplemented by college-level coursework or vocational training in property appraisal.
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory appraisal experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• Valid Georgia driver’s license.
• Certification as an Appraiser III or higher through the Georgia Department of Revenue (must be maintained).

Salary will be based on education and experience.
