Residential Appraiser Supervisor

General Position Summary
The Residential Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the residential appraisal process and ensuring accurate valuations of residential properties. This position involves supervising a team of appraisers, conducting quality control checks, and providing guidance and support to staff members.
Description of Duties & Required Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of residential appraisers and support staff.
- Provide guidance and training to staff members on appraisal techniques and procedures.
- Conducting performance evaluations and addressing any performance issues or training needs.
- Assigning tasks to appraisers and support staff to ensure timely completion of appraisal projects.
- Conduct quality control checks on appraisal reports and assessments.
- Review residential property valuations for accuracy and compliance with appraisal standards.
- Assist in resolving complex appraisal issues and disputes.
- Generating reports, analysis, and recommendations for senior management
- Reviewing appraisal reports for completeness, consistency, and adherence to guidelines.
- Collaborate with other departments within the appraisal district to ensure consistency in valuations.
- Implementing changes or updates in appraisal practices to align with regulatory requirements.
- Keep abreast of changes in property tax laws and regulations that may impact residential appraisals.
- Represent the appraisal district at hearings and meetings with property owners.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abililties
- Knowledge of residential appraisal principles and techniques.
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Familiarity with property tax laws and regulations.
- Proficiency in appraisal software and tools.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
- Experience in conducting quality control checks and resolving complex appraisal issues.
- Abilities to work occasional evenings or weekends as needed.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in residential appraisal, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
- Bachelor's degree in real estate, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Appraisal certifications such as Certified Residential Appraiser (RPA) or equivalent required.
- A valid driver's license is required for property inspections.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time.
- Manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment.
- Occasional lifting of boxes or files weighing up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment
- The Residential Supervisor at the Montgomery Central Appraisal District works primarily in an office setting. Frequent exposure to computer monitors and interfacing with the public.
- The position may require occasional travel to residential properties for inspections or meetings.
- The work environment can be fast-paced and demanding, with tight deadlines and competing priorities.
- The supervisor may need to work occasional evenings or weekends to meet project deadlines or attend meetings with property owners.
