THE POSITION
As a Real Estate Appraiser with the Department of Transportation, you will help ensure fair and accurate property valuations for major improvement projects. This position allows you to work in the field and in the office while gaining experience in property research and analysis. You will play a key role in supporting fair compensation for property owners. Become part of a mission that strengthens communities across the state.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position appraises residential properties to support right-of-way needs for highway improvements and ensures fair market work includes researching records, inspecting properties, analyzing market data, and preparing appraisal a Real Estate Appraiser, you will perform the following duties:
- Property Research: Review courthouse records, deeds, and ownership documents to identify property details
- Site Inspections: Visit properties, interview owners, and gather information needed for accurate valuations
- Valuation Methods: Analyze market trends, comparable sales, and property conditions to determine value
- Report Preparation: Document findings, update prior appraisals, and prepare materials for hearings and reviews
- Coordination Tasks: Work with attorneys, appraisers, and project staff to support claim settlements and project planning
- Customer Support: Provide clear information to property owners regarding their rights and appraisal processes

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days per pay period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in King of Prussia. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. - Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $51,971 (before taxes).

Required Experience, Training & Eligibility QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirements:
- All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser certification.
- All positions require possession of an active motor vehicle license.
- This position requires an active Pennsylvania Certified General Real Estate Appraiser certification within 2 years of employment.
