Property Appraiser I or II – Tax Assessor
Harris County, Georgia, population 36,000 and located in west central Georgia along the Alabama border 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta, 30 minutes north of Columbus, and home to Callaway Resort and Gardens and FDR State Park, is accepting applications for a full-time Property Appraiser reporting to the Chief Tax Appraiser.
This position is responsible for providing administrative and clerical support, and appraisal duties. The role requires knowledge of applicable state laws, and local ordinances, as well as proficiency in computers and job-related software. The purpose of this position is to ensure every parcel in the County gets a complete and accurate record of their property in order for the taxpayer to pay the correct amount of tax owed to the county. Success in this position contributes to the correct amount of taxes being assessed to property owners and an accurate record of the property.
The position demands strong oral and written communication skills, effective interpersonal abilities, and proficiency in operating standard office equipment. The employee must demonstrate solid mathematical skills. And have the ability to answers questions and give direction to taxpayers and the general public by phone, email or in person.
Minimum qualifications: A two-year degree or higher from an accredited college or university is strongly preferred. However, the Chief Tax Appraiser will consider all applicants with a combination of significant work experience, education, and training that proves the applicant has the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job very well. Possession of, or the ability to readily obtain, a valid Georgia driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle or equipment to meet all requirements for Appraiser (#) as mandated by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
The starting salary range $18.77 to $21.21 based on qualifications, plus generous benefits including a five-year vesting schedule for retirement.
