Job Description
Field Appraiser (FT)
This position is responsible for locating and appraising real property in order to assist with the development and documentation of the county tax digest. This position requires the applicant to achieve an appraiser 1 certification within two (2) years of being hired.
Major Duties:
• Measures, describes, and values real estate and all new construction by conducting on-site reviews.
Conducts on-site inspections of all real estate in the county to discover any unreturned properties.
Notifies Chief Appraiser of assessment problems found in field.
Assists taxpayers by explaining property valuations, describing potential exemptions, explaining tax assessment rules and regulations, and preparing applications for exemption programs.
Reviews keyed appraisals for correctness.
Assists other county personnel, taxpayers, surveyors, attorneys, appraisers, and real estate personnel by providing information regarding property ownership, addresses, descriptions, locations, and values.
Assists with preparation of the county tax digest.
Maintains the Mobile Home Digest.
Processes returned assessment notices.
Processes outgoing mail.
Researches and locates deeds and plats.
Takes digital pictures of each property.
Schedules service and routine maintenance work for assigned vehicles.
Maintains certification by attending educational and training sessions.
Processes permits received from county and cities.
Verifies conservation use as appropriate.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
Ability to meet necessary requirements of Appraiser I as mandated by the Georgia Department of Revenue.
Must pass a Background/Reference Check and Pre-Employment Drug Screenings prior to the start of employment.
