Job Description
Position Overview
The Chief Appraiser provides strategic and operational leadership for the Valuations Department under the direction of the VP of role is responsible for safeguarding the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of all valuation products while ensuring strict adherence to client requirements, regulatory standards, and industry best practices. The Chief Appraiser serves as the department's senior subject matter expert and plays a critical role in quality assurance, risk management, compliance oversight, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all valuation review processes, performing complex appraisal reviews and ensuring consistent quality, accuracy, and on-time delivery.
- Establish, implement, and maintain departmental quality control standards, appraisal policies, procedures, and internal controls aligned with client and investor guidelines.
- Ensure full compliance with USPAP, state appraisal board regulations, investor requirements, and internal risk management standards; serve as primary liaison during audits and regulatory reviews.
- Oversee appraiser panel and vendor performance, including onboarding, approvals, scorecards, removals, reinstatements, and ongoing vendor education initiatives.
- Partner with operations and technology teams to enhance appraisal management systems, workflow efficiencies, and process improvements.
- Provide technical expertise on complex valuation methodologies while mentoring and developing junior reviewers and emerging leaders.
- Promote a culture of ethical valuation practices, accountability, professional excellence, and continuous improvement.
- Maintain all required appraisal licenses and certifications in good standing and serve as a trusted resource to executive leadership and internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Active Certified Residential or Certified General Appraiser license in good standing (multi-state licensure preferred).
- Deep knowledge of USPAP, state appraisal board regulations, investor guidelines, and valuation risk management standards.
- Experience managing appraiser panels and vendor performance metrics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interface with executive leadership, clients, auditors, and regulators.
- Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative leadership style and the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships.
- High level of professional integrity, ethical judgment, and sound decision-making.
