Appraiser / Office Clerk
General Description:
The intent of this position is to primarily work as a Field Appraiser and secondarily as a backfill/assistant position able to cover all positions within the office and gain valuable experience covering all aspects of property assessment. Training will be provided for this entry-level position with excellent opportunity for growth, increased duties and responsibilities, along with career advancement. Duties include assisting with day-to-day operation of the assessor's office in the appraisal and listing of properties, clerical work, real estate maintenance tasks, and GIS tasks. Candidate will maintain a professional attitude and appearance while representing the Assessor's office. Performs any and all other duties or responsibilities as directed by the Assessor.

Responsibilities:
· Property listing and appraisal
o Measuring, inspecting, and photographing properties
o Gathering information on properties
o Listing property data within our mass appraisal software
· Answering questions regarding applicable laws, taxpayer responsibilities, and the general flow of assessment operations
· GIS work
o Provide, create, analyze and map data for the public
o Create and provide map products for clients, including other offices, the public, and state/federal government
o Interpreting and inputting surveys into the GIS
o Parcel maintenance (Split, Combine, Adjust)
· Attend training as required both on and off site
· General computer and clerical work
o Working with exemptions and credits, including applying, removing, and mailing notification letters
o Abstract and reconciliation reports
o Managing sales books
o Warrants
o Taking minutes at meetings
o Managing office mailings and filings
· Adjusting real estate data, interpreting legal descriptions, and assisting the Auditor's office in verifying the validity of recorded transfer documents.
Work Conditions:
Field Work: Traversing ground of all conditions, in all weather, to gather information about properties and interface with taxpayers. May require but not limited to climbing stairs or ladders, bending, reaching, or Work: Extended periods of sitting/standing at a desk utilizing a computer.
Minimum qualifications:
Authorization to work within the United States
Ability to work in-office (Cherokee, Iowa) 100%
Valid Iowa Driver's License
Pre-employment Physical Capacity Profile (PCP) test required
Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Experience with real estate or assessment operations
Travel Requirements:
Travel may be required for training and meetings, including overnights
Travel will be required in-county for property assessment
