Appraiser - Assessor's Office
Incumbent serves as Assistant Supervisor for the Highway Department, responsible for assisting in coordinating department operations and in supervising and directing personnel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF ALL ASSESSOR OFFICE EMPLOYEES ARE INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
Inspect properties, considering factors such as market value, location, and building/replacement costs to determine appraisal value.
Document physical characteristics of property such as measurements, quality, and design, updating records when property has been annually reassessed, improved, damaged, or has otherwise changed.
Conduct regular reviews and inspections of properties within jurisdictions to determine changes in property due to construction, improvements, or demolition.
Inspect new construction and improvements to existing structures to determine values.
Prepare and maintain current data on each parcel assessed including photography, maps of boundaries, inventories of land and structures, and property characteristics.
Complete the Data Entry process by entering information into our includes editing and attaching photographs, listing folders, data entry, and review to ensure all components are estimation of property values, considering such factors as depreciation, replacement costs, value comparisons of similar properties, and income potential.
Communicate with people familiar with properties and immediate surroundings, such as contractors, homeowners, and realtors, to obtain pertinent and accurate and process Business Personal Property returns.
Review/Maintain lists of all businesses in Grant County including both current and new business and making notes of business no longer in /Maintain accurate and timely records on Annually Assessed Mobile Homes.
Assist taxpayers/tax representatives with questions and concerns regarding both Real Property and Personal Property.
Assist taxpayers with appeals of property assessments.
Answer phone calls and attend to the counter to provide customer service support to taxpayers as well as via email.
Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or GED is required
Possess a valid Indiana driver's license and maintain a clean driving record to meet County vehicle insurance requirements.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, multi-task, work alone and with others in a team environment without supervision.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, contractors, and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.
Ability to comply with all employer and department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.
Must Attain DGLF Level I and Level II Certifications within 1 year of employment and maintain certifications with required Continuing Education credits.
Must be knowledgeable in Microsoft Office. Must pay strong attention to detail and be organized.
This position requires the knowledge and skill to communicate and respond successfully and professionally with all employees, citizens, vendors and officials.

Normal office equipment, County Vehicle for out of office appraisals/inspections
