Why Does the Job Exist?
The main function of the position is to assist in managing properties and improvements acquired by the Department for highway purposes that are in excess of Department needs within and outside the right of way limits.
How Does It Get Done?
The key responsibilities of this position will be to assist the Unit in preparing sales of excess property, processing agreements for leases, clearing our right of way of encroachments, abandonments and other property transactions dealing with highway right of way, some which generate money for the Department and others that benefit other government agencies and as a whole, will benefit the general public.
Who Are the Customers?
The NMDOT District and Regional Offices, Right of Way Bureau staff, Project Development Engineers, Office of the General Counsel, and other NMDOT staff. Customers also include landowners, consultants regarding road construction projects, public municipalities, other governmental agencies, and the traveling public.

Minimum Qualification
Associate’s degree in Business Administration or Finance and two (2) years of experience in real estate, appraisals, real estate appraisals, accounting, auditing, finance, and/or collections. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate as a condition of continued employment.
Working Conditions
Work is primarily performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage. Work is also performed outdoors, periodically. Some sitting, standing, bending, and reaching may be required. Travel is required which may include extended day trips and possible overnight stays.
